From Vespa to Land Rover
December 18th, 2016
In a tribute to the model of Land Rover known as “the Defender”, the production of which was discontinued in 2016, Ray Wood wrote Stalking Geraldine (MW Books 2016). The novel follows freelance journalist Giles Jackson on the look-out for a Land Rover Defender nicknamed Geraldine and its owner Sarah Oakes, both disappeared on a trip through Africa. Giles makes it his mission to find them both. Ray Wood was born in the U.K. but spent his childhood in South Africa. He graduated from the University of Cape Town and once explored the spine of Africa on a Vespa Scooter. For many years, he taught mathematics and ran a wilderness expedition outfit. He lives in a heritage grocery store in West Vancouver when he is not sailing a 37-foot sloop or travelling corners of the world using an elderly Australian-built Land Rover.
Stalking Geraldine is printed by Ingram Lightening Source and can be purchased using their system from presses in the U.K. and U.S.A. The author’s company, Ocean Rover Corporation, is in West Vancouver, B.C. It is chiefly involved in Aerospace and Marine projects. This company Woods’ books in stock for local distribution. The Ocean Rover phone number is 604 925 1260.

Your name keeps appearing around my life.
How are you?
I’m glad to read Bot Geraldine.
My cousin Ron norton completed his renovation of his 1950s rover found in the Australian bush.
I spent a wonderful half year in Australia, traveling there by boat, just like a Ten pound Pom. Now working on turning my notes into publishable material. I live full time in geneva now, but still have the loft in france.
I have a friend Robbie who lives near you in west Vancouver. May I introduce you. She’s a big traveler and sailor.
