The event will feature sample recipes from Randy Shore’s cookbook and a talk by about sustainability, gardening and Shore’s favourite home-grown ingredients and dishes.
As a food and sustainability columnist for the Vancouver Sun, Randy Shore has written Grow What You Eat, Eat What You Grow: The Green Man’s Guide to Living & Eating Sustainably All Year Round (Arsenal Pulp Press $22.95), a cookbook with more than just recipes. Along the lines of books by Denman Island humourist Des Kennedy, Shore has also provided a guide to gardening, a personal journal and a treatise on the art of eating and living sustainably. Even though Randy Shore’s father and grandfather were raised on farms, he himself never knew even how to grow a radish. As a contributor of “The Green Man” column in the Vancouver Sun, he consequently spent five years teaching himself how to grow food for his family and generate imaginative and nourishing meals year round. Randy Shore and his wife Darcy now reside on a plant-packed acre in Roberts Creek on the Sunshine Coast, growing as much of their own food as possible. A former restaurant cook, he has received a BC and Yukon Community Newspaper Association Best Columnist award and the BC Wildlife Federation Art Downs Award for conservation journalism. 978-1-55152-548-8
