Recently retired SFU history prof, Andrea Geiger has written Converging Empires: Citizens & Subjects in the North Pacific Borderlands, 1867-1945, co-published by UBC Press ($35.95) and by UNC Press (US$ 27.95). Converging Empires situates BC within the broader framework of the North Pacific borderlands, a region that extends north into Alaska and out into the North Pacific, with a particular focus on ways in which Japanese immigrants and Indigenous people negotiated both national and other borders that increasingly cut across the territories of Indigenous peoples during this period. At her retirement, Geiger was honoured with the rank of professor emerita. She remains active as an author and a historian. Geiger has lived in BC since 1998, and currently resides on Vancouver Island. UBC Press 9780774867993 / UNC 9781469641140
