Mountain culture

March 17th, 2021

Kamloops-based George M. Johnson has published his second picture book for kids, Marisa and the Mountains (Simply Read $21.95) about B.C.’s mountain culture. The story was inspired by Johnson’s move from southern Ontario to B.C. thirty years ago, as well as his wife’s experience of moving from Saskatchewan when she was five and then returning to visit her relatives frequently. Story synopsis: Marisa struggles with living in the mountains at first, but when she visits her cousin Rosie in Saskatchewan, who has never seen a mountain or mountain wildlife, Marisa realizes how unique her home is. Now that she has a friend to share her experience, she looks forward to Rosie’s visit. Illustrations are by Chelsea O’Byrne. 9781927018910
