Beat reading
March 18th, 2021
Deep Cove author, Trevor Carolan is set to be part of a new YouTube Spotlight concert series when he livestreams a reading from Christ Church Cathedral in Vancouver, Friday, March 19, 7:30 pm.
Carolan will read from his new travel book Road Trips: Journeys in the Unspoiled World, presenting spoken word and travel vignettes from Morocco, San Francisco, Nepal, Cuba, Lisbon, Paris, Warsaw and Laos. Joining Carolan are two of Canada’s top jazz stars, Henry Young on guitar, and Paul Blaney on stand-up bass.
“We’re reimagining the Beat-era poetry & jazz style work by Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Jack Kerouac for current pandemic times,” says Carolan. “Working with Henry and Paul is like having a couple of hip bodyguards making sure everything works, and it’s an opportunity to imagine being in far-off places during these locked in pandemic times.”
The YouTube livestream is also an opportunity to make modest donations to the Cathedral’s long-established work with disadvantaged groups in Vancouver’s downtown core.
