Ex-bar owner examines alcohol
September 22nd, 2016
Book lovers will get the chance to see what the current writer-in-residence at the Joy Kogawa House, Toronto journalist and author Shaughnessy Bishop-Stall, has been working on for the past few months. In a non-fiction work that is part memoir, he delves into the effects that alcohol has on people – our bodies, our psyches, and our communities. It is a subject Bishop-Stall knows a thing or two about, having recently been the proprietor of an underground drinking establishment in Toronto’s Kensington Market called The Lowdown.
Shaughnessy Bishop-Stall is well-known for his book about the year he spent living in Toronto’s Tent City, Down to This: Squalor and Splendour in a Big-City Shantytown (Random House 2004). He also appeared in the third season of CBC’s show The Newsroom, playing a newswriter.
