The painful legacy of Canada’s residential schools and the long road to reconciliation are explored through the voices of two Indigenous women in Decolonization and Me: Conversations about Healing a Nation and Ourselves (Medicine Wheel Publishing $30.99). Phyllis Webstad, founder of Orange Shirt Society, and Kirsty McLeod, a Métis scholar, co-authored this book which delves into denialism, privilege, and truth. Using Phyllis’s lived experiences and Kirsty’s academic guidance, the book is structured around four healing stages, encouraging readers to reflect and engage. McLeod has spent over 20 years in education and serves on the Education Committee for the Métis Nation of Victoria. Webstad is a Northern Secwépemc (Shuswap) from the Stswecem’c Xgat’tem First Nation and author of seven books. 9781778540684
