Boldizar Wins Locus Sci-Fi Award
June 27th, 2025

BC-based author Alexander Boldizar (at right) has just made literary headlines with his latest win: the 2025 Locus Award for Best Science Fiction Novel. The Man Who Saw Seconds (CLASH Books, 2024), beat out works by global heavyweights including Adrian Tchaikovsky, Cory Doctorow, James SA Corey and Jeff VanderMeer.
“I was pretty shocked,” said Boldizar. “My inbox has been exploding with inbounds from agents, publishers, translation requests, movie people, etc. This is what I was imagining 25 years ago when I quit the law to write. So sometimes dreams do come true—they just take a lot longer than planned.”
ABOUT THE BOOK
Preble Jefferson can see five seconds into the future, but otherwise leads an ordinary life. A subway confrontation with a cop goes wrong, allowing Preble to dodge a bullet—resulting in another man’s death. When government agencies discover his gift, a manhunt ensues, shifting their focus to military research. As Preble fights to protect his family, he must balance the cost of his ability against his humanity.
ABOUT THE AWARD
Named one of the “Big 3” global speculative fiction awards, the Locus Award is the only major sci-fi honour open to all readers worldwide. With its win, The Man Who Saw Seconds joins a storied list of fan-favourite novels celebrated for imagination, execution and cultural resonance.
