July 16th, 2024

Author Judy LeBlanc embarks on a journey of discovery and reconciliation with her Coast Salish ancestry after her mother’s death in 2015 through her latest memoir, Permission to Land (Caitlin Press $24.95). She learns about her maternal great-grandparents’ mixed Scottish and Coast Salish heritage, uncovering hidden family histories. LeBlanc’s memoir-in-essays explores the erasure of her family’s past, particularly the women’s experiences over four generations. Through a canoe voyage to her ancestors’ home, she delves into themes of grief, identity and heritage, addressing the impact of institutional and internalized racism. This intimate, poetic memoir honors her ancestors and their stories. 9781773861357
