June 06th, 2022

The List of Last Chances (Caitlin $22.95) by Christina Myers (below) is one of ten books long-listed for the 75th Leacock Medal for Humour.

This annual award recognizes excellence in Canadian literary humour. Past winners have included Will Ferguson, W.O.Mitchell, Stuart McLean and Mordecai Richler. The three finalists for the award will be named on Monday, August 15, 2022, with the medal winner being announced on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at the Leacock Medal Award Gala Dinner.

Myers’ novel concerns thirty-something Ruthie, who is unemployed, newly single and sleeping on a friend’s couch. To get away and earn some quick cash, she desperately takes a job driving an elder named Kay from PEI to her son’s home on the west coast. Ruthie is soon sidetracked by Kay’s bucket-list that includes visiting old friends along the way and re-connecting with a long-lost love. While playing secret matchmaker, Ruthie is increasingly questioned by the son seeking updates and wanting the speedy arrival of his mother. Ruthie gets caught up in a web of her own lies. 9781773860596
