Poetry in Transit, 2024-25

August 01st, 2024

The Poetry in Transit program will officially launch its 28th year on September 28, from 12:30 pm, at UBC Robson Square. This community engagement project is a partnership of Books BC and TransLink, aimed at showcasing the work of BC’s regional poets.

Each year, Canadian publishers submit poems authored by BC poets to be featured in the campaign. The poets that will be featured are chosen by a jury. Afterwards, a collection of bus cards featuring the poetry selections are produced and placed on transit vehicles across the province for riders to discover on their daily commutes. Each bus card will also feature the cover art of the book in which the selected poem was first published.

On the day of the event, Michelle Brown (above right), Bradley Peters, Tiffany Stone, Christopher Levenson, Dina Del Bucchia, Svetlana Ischenko and Andrea Scott, who are featured in the campaign, will read from their work. A short discussion and Q&A session will follow. The event will be hosted by former Vancouver Poet Laureate Evelyn Lau. Attendees will also be able to view the complete collection of selected poems displayed onboard the Poetry Bus that will be parked at the venue.

The chosen poets and their respective books for the 2024-25 Poetry in Transit program are:

  • Michelle Brown, Vancouver, BC — Swans (Palimpsest Press)
  • Dina Del Bucchia, Fruitvale, BC — You’re Gonna Love This (Talonbooks)
