Social and spiritual themes are the substance of Nora Ryan’s work. Born in Ireland and now living in Squamish, BC, Ryan explores resilience, faith and social change through stories rooted in everyday life. Her novel Nell’s Quiet Revolution (Friesen Press $21.49) follows a mother of six in 1970s Ireland as she challenges domestic expectations, seeks independence and becomes part of a wider cultural shift questioning the Catholic Church’s authority. Ryan is a pen name chosen to honour her paternal grandmother, a woman born in an era when women’s voices were often silenced. 9781038352538
