Fountains of Wayne (J-Card Press $18) by Fiona McQuarrie is the first full-length biography of the American band of the same name. The book goes beyond their 2003 hit “Stacy’s Mom” to explore the group’s highs and lows and the lasting legacy of their music. Co-founder and bass player, Adam Schlesinger died in 2020 from Covid-19 complications although as of 2025, the band continues to occasionally perform. Named after a lawn ornament store in Wayne, New Jersey (closed in 2009) that was featured in an episode of the TV show, The Sopranos, the band has been described by music critic Andrew Leahey as a “power pop” act with a sound that is “a mix of British-influenced pop songs, low-fi production, and wry lyrics about dead-end jobs and biker boyfriends.” 9798989194780
