Book Launch at the JCC

March 11th, 2024

Dr. Gerry Krystal (at right) is set to officially launch his latest book, Our Universe and How We Got Here (Self Published, 2023) at the Jewish Community Centre of Greater Vancouver, on March 14, 2024, from 7:00 pm onwards.

Biochemist and cancer researcher, Dr. Gerry Krystal, takes us on 13.8-billion-year adventure as he unravels the cosmic tale from the birth of the universe to the rise of modern TV-watching Homo Sapiens. This journey spans pivotal events, from hydrogen fusion within the first stars to life’s evolution on Earth, and even explores the possibility of a creator. With a lighthearted touch and easy-to-follow narrative, the book not only delves into our origins but prompts readers to ponder a future where humanity thrives on empathy and collaboration, dialing down the malevolence and selfishness. The book was illustrated and edited by Samantha F. Krystal.

Dr. Gerry Krystal obtained his PhD from McGill University in Biochemistry and is currently a full-time Professor at the University of British Columbia in the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine and a Distinguished Scientist at the British Columbia Cancer Research Centre (BCCRC) in Vancouver.  His current research, and passion, is on the effect of diet and exercise in both prevention and progression of cancer. He has an active “wet” lab at the BCCRC and has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers.
