November 04th, 2020
UBC assistant professor of Indigenous creative writing, Billy-Ray Belcourt has published his debut memoir, A History of My Brief Body (Hamish Hamilton $25) that starts with memories of his early life in the hamlet of Joussard, Alberta and expands from there into a wider, broken world around him. It includes his experience of the legacy of colonialism, joys in life, sexual exploration and intimacy, and the act of writing as a survival instinct and way of grieving. He previously published two collections of poetry including This Wound is a World, which won the 2018 Griffin Poetry Prize. Belcourt is a member of the Driftpile Cree Nation. 978-0-7352-3778-0
