Retired high school teacher, C.V. (Cindy) Gauthier self-published Charlee LeBeau & The Gambler’s Promise (FriesenPress $31.49), the first book of her YA historical trilogy. The book takes the reader on a journey from Sonoma and San Francisco in California, to islands in the Salish Sea off the coast of British Columbia. Set in 1858, the story’s heroine is 14-year old Charlie Lebeau who worked as a hired hand at a Sonoma ranch when her rich uncle, a professional gambler offers to take her to San Francisco.
