Whistler Writers Fest reading event

September 03rd, 2024

Author Sarah Suk is scheduled to appear at the Firebrands, Runaways & Time Warps: Children & YA Authors’ Reading Event, organized by the Whistler Writers Fest. The event will be taking place on Sunday, October 20, from 11:00 am onwards at the Fairmont Chateau in Whistler.

Suk will be talking about her latest novel, The Space Between Here & Now (Quill Tree Books/HarperCollins $24.99), alongside Marty Chan and Adam de Souza.

The Space Between Here & Now follows seventeen-year-old Aimee Roh, who suffers from Sensory Time Warp Syndrome, a rare condition that causes her to time travel whenever she encounters a scent linked to a specific memory. While her father believes she’ll outgrow it with effort, Aimee’s fear of randomly vanishing into the past keeps her from leading a normal life.

Things take a more unsettling turn when Aimee disappears for nine hours into a memory of her estranged mother—a memory she has never recalled before. This unsettling experience raises alarming questions. The memory doesn’t align with the story of her mother’s departure, a version she has always believed to be true as told by her father.

Driven by the need to uncover the truth, Aimee embarks on a journey to Korea. As she delves into her past, she unravels the mysteries surrounding her memories, the reality of her mother’s departure, and the reasons behind her repeated returns to certain pivotal moments in her life. Through this journey, Aimee comes to understand that she must reconcile with her past if she wants to save her present and move forward.
