Author Monique Leonardo Carlos’ book, It’s Okay, Just Ask (Owlkids $21.95) for ages 4-7, due out in October, follows a little girl as she and her family emigrate to a new country. Filled with questions and uncertainties—like whether they’ll ever return home, if she’ll make new friends, or why she looks different—the girl is encouraged by her mother to voice her curiosity with the phrase, “It’s okay, just ask!” As she asks questions, she discovers new things about her community and herself, though some answers remain unclear or lead to more questions. Based on the author’s own experience moving from the Philippines to Canada, the story encourages readers to approach new experiences with curiosity and to speak up when unsure. 9781771476140
