Healthy ecosystems are crucial for the myriad of species, including humans, that inhabit Earth. However, human activities such as deforestation, urbanization and pollution have led to environmental degradation. Taking Care of Where We Live (Orca $26.95) for ages 9-12, due out in September, explores restoration initiatives globally, from Pakistan’s Ten Billion Tree Tsunami program to Colombia’s Green Corridors project. Author Merrie-Ellen Wilcox teaches children how to contribute to ecosystem health in their communities through actions like native planting and removing invasive species, fostering the importance of mending environmental damage in young reader’s minds. 9781459835382
