Penguins anchor the story of Where the Earth Meets the Sky: A Story of Penguins, People, and Place in Antarctica (Pegasus Books $32) by Louise K. Blight. In Where the Earth Meets the Sky, Blight recounts her time working at a remote Antarctic research camp shared with one other scientist and thousands of penguins, reflecting on seabird research, climate change and the emotional impact of isolation in one of the world’s most extreme environments. A conservation scientist with a PhD in zoology from UBC, Blight is an adjunct professor at the University of Victoria’s School of Environmental Studies and co-chair of the birds specialist group for the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada. Her writing has appeared in publications including The Globe and Mail, Science and Avian Conservation and Ecology. She lives on Salt Spring Island, BC with her partner, a dog and two indoor cats. 9798897100606
