Jan Howarth recounts her journey from a career in the West Coast fishing industry to becoming a successful PR consultant in her memoir My Way with Fish and Other Ventures (Paper Trail Publishing $29.95). In 1970, Howarth was hired by BC Packers, making her the only female manager in the male-dominated industry. Despite a sexist work environment, Howarth thrived in marketing and public relations. She launched her own PR firm, A. Jan Howarth & Associates, where she helped develop Northern Gold Foods’ groundbreaking granola bar. Throughout her career, she worked with major clients like the B.C.
