Punjabi author Harpreet Singh Sekha, based in Surrey, writes about gender inequality, social justice and the immigrant experience. His short story collection Prism (Ekstasis $24.95), recently translated into English by Ajmer Rode, describes a wide range of immigrant characters, including: a young Indo Canadian woman working as a prostitute to save money to open a clothing store; a wife witnessing her Punjabi husband coming to terms with taking on house and child caring duties because she earns more than he does; a Punjabi mother worried about her son being raised by her husband, who is not the biological father; a man tortured by the thought he may have been the cause of his beloved cousin’ s death.
