Daniel Kalla at Richmond Library
June 21st, 2024
The Richmond Public Library in Brighouse will be hosting an author event with international bestselling author, Daniel Kalla on July 3, where he will talk about his writing process and his new book, High Society (Simon & Schuster $24.99). The library will also feature this book as its summer read for the Richmond Reads Adult Summer Reading Club.
Kalla’s novel follows Holly Danvers, who survived a car accident at sixteen that killed her father, though she has no memory of it. Her emotional recovery came years later through ayahuasca therapy in Peru. Now, two decades later, Holly is a successful psychiatrist using psychedelics to treat addictions. Despite the risks, she implements an unproven protocol with remarkable results. However, her success is short-lived; a celebrity client publicly praises her while another overdoses, accusing her of misconduct. Facing career ruin, Holly turns to her estranged husband and mentor, Dr. Aaron Laing, for help, but soon realizes she must confront her own trauma to uncover why her clients are relapsing and dying.
The event will follow a book sale and a book signing by the author.
