Billeh Nickerson

Known for his use of satire and humour, Billeh Nickerson famously blended Canadian hockey culture with queer desire in his poem, “Why I Love Wayne Gretzky—an Erotic Fantasy” published in his first collection The Asthmatic Glassblower (Arsenal Pulp, 2000). The title of Nickerson’s fifth collection, Blood Clot Banana Bag (Anvil $20), about two weeks he spent in St. Paul’s Hospital in 2022 when he was diagnosed with blood clots, refers to the nickname medical workers give to IV bags (banana bags), which are tinged yellow from electrolytes and hang above patients like banana bunches. 9781772142624
