Writers Fest with BC authors

October 21st, 2025

The Vancouver Writers Fest is heating up and we’re spotlighting a few major events coming up in the next three days. From award-winning poets to chart-topping debut novelists, these are the events you don’t want to miss.

Thursday, October 23: Storytime with Nature (And Dinos!)

This event at 10:15 AM is a perfect pick for young readers and educators. Caroline Adderson will delight little ones with A Pond a Poet and Three Pests (Groundwood Books, 2025), a playful take on one of the poet Bashō’s famous haikus. The event is a collection of three presentations by award-winning picture book authors, also featuring Linda Bailey.

Friday, October 24: The Next Generation

Head to this event at 1:00 PM to hear from the next wave of literary visionaries. The panel features authors whose work is topping bestseller charts and going viral, with a razor-sharp eye on the pressing issues of our times. Liann Zhang will be there to discuss her debut thriller Julie Chan Is Dead (Simon & Schuster, 2025), which casts a critical eye on influencer culture and the obsession with status. The discussion is ideal for Creative Writing and Literary Studies students (Grades 10–12), but all are welcome.

Saturday, October 25: Verses of Transformation

Poetry takes the spotlight at 10:30 AM. Poets are often viewed as bulwarks of counterculture, existing against the rising tide of autocratic ruin and threats to liberatory values. Join an inspiring lineup including BC’s award-winning poet and UBC professor Cecily Nicholson. She will join Guest Curator Canisia Lubrin, Billy-Ray Belcourt, Junie Désil and others in a carousel-style reading where they will read and reflect on a secret question drawn on stage.
