Whistler Writers Festival returns
October 15th, 2025

The Whistler Writers Festival (WWF) returns from October 30 to November 2, 2025, with a theme of “Joyful Resistance.”
The festival will host four days of literary events, including workshops and reading events. Attendees will be welcomed to celebrate storytellers, authors, musicians, books and ideas. The theme reflects the belief that reading, listening, learning and empathizing are all acts of resistance against challenging circumstances and that the literary arts can build community, joy and hope.
The festival program features a diverse range of events, including readings, conversations with celebrated authors and workshops on various aspects of the writing and publishing process.
Silvia Moreno-Garcia, the New York Times best-selling Mexican-Canadian author, will be in conversation for The Bewitching, A Night of Spellcraft and Suspense on Saturday, November 1.
Julian Brave NoiseCat, writer and director of the Oscar-nominated documentary Sugarcane, will discuss his debut memoir, We Survived the Night (Knopf $30), during Reading Event 5 on Friday, October 31.
Workshops include: Pitch In! Tell Your Story to a Canadian Publishing Pro with agents, editors and publishers, Make a Micro-Memoir in Comics with Sarah Leavitt and Create Your (Crime) Fighter with Susan Juby.
The event, Spilling the Tea: Dragons, Thieves and Romantasy on Saturday, November 1, features New York Times bestselling author Karina Halle.

The festival will announce the winners of the Whistler Independent Book Awards (WIBA) during the All Hallows Eve: Murder and Mayhem event on Friday, October 31. The WIBAs are the only juried competition open exclusively to self-published Canadian authors in fiction, non-fiction and children’s categories. The festival’s host organization, the Whistler Writing Society, also runs programs like the Authors in the Schools Program, the Whistler Writer in Residence Program (featuring Chelene Knight in 2025) and publishes the local literary magazine, The Lupine Review.
