Illustrated by Vancouver artist, Sophie Dubé, Making a Splash: How Humans Consume, Conserve and Care for Water (Orca $29.95), due out in May 2025, explores humanity’s past and future actions to protect and sustain Earth’s water resources. From ancient times to today, water has driven human migration, inspired religious beliefs, and evolved from a drinking source to a key energy resource—with both positive and negative impacts. As cities grow, populations rise, and climates change, the future of water faces challenges. Through Dubé’s colourful illustrations, the book also touches on innovations that are aiming to make water accessible to everyone, while “water warriors” work to shift the perspective from humans needing water to water needing humans.
