Scott Lawrance

October 22nd, 2025

The poetry of Scott Lawrance is a testament to the surreal and the marvellous, forging new pathways through the ekphrastic tradition in his latest work, Diving the Stone (Carbonation Press $15). The book is a result of Lawrance’s seven-decade-long friendship and collaboration with artist-musician Gregg Simpson, in which they re-imagine the Tarot deck and desert landscape with surrealistic vigor. Simpson, a Bowen Island artist, has been active in visual art since the mid-1960s, with work exhibited internationally and included in over 100 collections across the world. Lawrance, whose last day job was clinical counsellor, hovers near the Western gate of the Salish Sea, preparing to pass his library of rain clouds oceans and forests to his nine honorable grandchildren. Lawrance is a celebrated poet and collaborator whose prose can be found in the archives of Raincoast Chronicles (Harbour Publishing) and the GTEC Reader. 9781300002543
