Mike Donoghue’s novel, Who Nuked Silicon Valley? (MPD Books $24.99), combines a high-stakes thriller with a meditation on memory, technology and what it means to be human. The story follows Livingstone1813, an AI who has had a decade of his memories stolen and Katie, a human struggling to survive in a world where unemployment has soared to fifty percent. Together—with the help of Auggie, a catbot—they uncover a dangerous secret hidden within the stolen memories, one powerful enough to threaten the forces that rule their society. Donoghue’s short fiction has appeared in anthologies, journals and sci-fi magazines, earning him recognition as a James White Award runner-up, Sunburst Award finalist and Pulp Literature Raven winner for best short story of the year. Donoghue also works in public health—where, as he puts it, much of his time is spent “herding cats.” 9781069545015
