First audiobook wins awards

January 27th, 2026

The audiobook Wetion (2nd edn): Historical Fiction Based on Fact (CC Sotel Publishing Ltd, 2025) by author James Allan Krause, PhD, has received nine Outstanding Creator Awards, including a first-place prize for Historical Fiction.

The honours mark a significant milestone for Krause, as Wetion is both his first audiobook and the opening title in his trilogy Looking Back, Here and Now, Searching Forward.

Wetion is an ambitious multimedia work that weaves interconnected short stories with a full play and ten original songs. Drawing on science, history and philosophy, the narrative is partly inspired by Krause’s own DNA results from the National Geographic Genographic Project, tracing human migration across more than 2,000 generations. Archival sources, including Project Gutenberg, further ground the work in historical research, while figures from Greek philosophy and ancient legend animate its exploration of human origins and relationships.

In addition to its top prize in Historical Fiction, Wetion placed second in Science Fiction and Education and Reference categories, earned third place for Audiobooks, and received five Honourable Mentions.

The awards are shared with editors Anna Krause, BEd, and Beverly Harris, MA. AI reviewers described the audiobook’s multimedia design as “pioneering,” a format that will continue across the remaining two books in the trilogy, which are already written and awaiting audiobook production.

Alongside paperback and hardcover editions, the audiobook has been added to the Library Bound Inc. database and is available through the Library and Archives of Canada in Ottawa. Krause, a third-generation writer born in Regina and now living in Courtenay, has authored six books, written three plays and composed thirty-five songs. 9781069187116
