Liverpool-born, Vancouver-based writer Emma Cleary makes her debut with Afterbirth (HarperCollins $24.99), a haunting literary horror novel exploring sisterhood, motherhood and the body’s terrifying transformations. Set in a decaying Vancouver apartment stalked by a mysterious figure known as Medusa, the novel follows two estranged sisters whose reunion spirals into obsession and the supernatural. Cleary’s short fiction and essays have appeared in Best British Short Stories, James Baldwin Review and Canadian Literature.
