Britta Gundersen

August 28th, 2025

Britta Gundersen has lived a life shaped by islands, from her childhood on Puget Sound to her years in Hawaii, Australia and Jamaica. Her self-published book, Island-Wise: Global Reflections ($24.95) gathers these experiences into a meditation on memory, belonging and the uncertain future of the places we call home. Moving between nostalgia for the past and unease about climate change, Gundersen reflects on how islands both shelter and expose the lives lived upon them. She has published work with the Victoria Historical Society, British Columbia History Federation and Literary and Historical Society of Quebec, as well as in Island Writer and Quebec City’s Chronicle-Telegraph. Now based in Victoria’s James Bay neighbourhood—on the traditional lands of the Lekwungen-speaking peoples—she continues to explore how geography and history shape human stories. 9798289115300
