There’s no shortage of bears in BC and naturalist and wildlife photographer Edward “Eddy” Savage counts a fair number of them among his acquaintances. His new book, Wild Bears of Canada: Photographs and Stories (Harbour $49.95), visits up close with a range of ursine creatures, including black bears, grizzlies and yes, polar bears. He treats them all not as spectacles of nature but as intelligent individuals whose behaviour develops through experience, not interchangeable representatives of a species.
