King of the Dump (Groundwood Books $21.99) is a noisy, thoughtful picture book about recycling, machinery and learning to let go. Written by Tim Wynne-Jones, who has published nearly forty books and mentored writers across North America, it’s the illustrator who steals the spotlight. Scot Ritchie, the Vancouver-based artist behind the book’s dynamic visuals, is known for infusing humour and charm into complex subjects. Ritchie is an award-winning illustrator whose drawings have appeared in editorial cartoons, exhibitions and children’s books alike. His colourful illustrations bring the main character, Teddy’s adventure to life—from forklifts to the beloved ride-on-dog toy. Ritchie has worked with the National Film Board of Canada and had his illustrations exhibited at the National Gallery of Canada. His books have been translated into languages including French, Korean, Chinese, Finnish, Arabic and Dutch. 9781773067483
