The Deepest Fake (Simon & Schuster $20.79) is the sixteenth novel from Daniel Kalla, a Vancouver-based ER physician whose medical thrillers often echo the real-world crises he faces in his day job. In this book, a tech CEO battling ALS becomes the victim of a deepfake conspiracy, pushing her to question reality as her digital identity spirals out of control. The novel confronts the dangers of AI-generated misinformation and asks how we define truth when anyone’s face and voice can be faked. Kalla’s previous Shanghai trilogy explored the Jewish refugee crisis during World War II and several of his past novels have been optioned for film. He is a clinical professor at UBC and still lives in Vancouver with his daughters and two dogs, Milo and Lulu. 9781668032534
