Troubling Criminology (Between the Lines Books $34.95) will be published on October 14, 2025, co-written by Michael Ma and fellow Kwantlen Polytechnic University professor Mike Larsen. The book reframes criminology as an open conversation rather than a fixed field. In place of rigid theory, Troubling Criminology invites students and educators alike to reflect on crime, justice and deviance as social constructs formed by histories of inequality, power and resistance. With its emphasis on collaboration, classroom dialogue and lived experience, it encourages critical thinking and imagines new possibilities for justice. Ma is a faculty member in the criminology department at KPU. Before entering academia, he spent years involved in community-based anti-racism and harm reduction work. His background includes sculpture, art history and political theory. He is a founding member of The Social Justice Centre and has worked with organizations including the Chinese Canadian National Council and the Vancouver District Labour Council. 9781771136853
