Exploring the role of sonic practices as forms of aesthetic and political dissent, Resistant Practices in Communities of Sound (McGill-Queen’s University Press $39.95), edited by authors Deanna Fong and Cole Mash challenges the traditional dominance of print and visuality in Canadian literary, artistic and academic spheres. The book examines critical methods of engaging with sound and creative practices that use sound to address issues of identity, racialization, ability, mobility, and surveillance. Divided into nine pairings, it bridges oral/aural and written works, highlighting the creative and critical output of leading sonic practitioners. The book encourages readers to engage as listeners, blending practical and academic perspectives in a resonant dialogue. 9780228021223
