Mynett wins the Ryga Award

Oy Vey! shortlist

Susin Nielsen’s Princess Puffybottom and Darryl (Penguin Random House $21.99) has been shortlisted for a 2020 Joan Betty Stuchner – Oy Vey! – Funniest Children’s Book Award in the picture book category.

In the chapter book category of the Oy Vey! awards, the following B.C. authors had books shortlisted:

-Cynthia Nugent for Kiddo (Tradewind Books $12.99)
-Eileen Holland for Sophie Trophy (Crwth Press $8.95), illustrated by Brooke Kerrigan
-Tanya Lloyd Kyi for Mya’s Strategy to Save the World (Penguin Random House $18.99)
-Beverley Brenna for Sapphire the Great and the Meaning of Life (Pajama Press) illustrated by Tara Anderson

Winners will be announced on May 15, 2021 (Chocolate Chip Cookie Day).

Joan Betty Stuchner was a children’s author who loved to make people laugh. She passed away unexpectedly in 2014. The Joan Betty Stuchner — Oy Vey! — Funniest Children’s Book Award honours her warm and generous spirit by encouraging authors and illustrators to keep her life-affirming humour alive.

The $752.81 x 2 Joan Betty Stuchner — Oy Vey! — Funniest Children’s Book Award is presented biannually to Canadian authors or illustrators of a picture or board book AND a work of juvenile fiction or non-fiction (i.e., lots of words).
