Human rights lawyer & activist and UBC adjunct professor Maureen Webb, who teaches national security law, rehabilitates computer hackers’ bad reputations in Coding Democracy: How Hackers are Disrupting Power, Surveillance, and Authoritarianism (MIT $39.95). She argues that hackers can be vital disruptors and that many are trying to ‘build out’ democracy into cyberspace.
